Of course, these "dream paths" are perfectly signposted and lead through a summer alpine paradise, putting countless unforgettable moments right there at your feet. Whether you are hiking on your own, prefer joining a guided hike organized by the tourist office, are here with the kids, or have breathtaking panoramic hikes on your schedule – you are certain to be absolutely thrilled!
The Schmitten has so much to offer: hiking and walking paths for all levels of ability, free guided hikes, cozy mountain huts and restaurants, as well as one of Europe’s largest art spaces with numerous oversized wooden sculptures. Numerous hiking paths invite you to explore the breathtaking alpine world on foot. Together instead of alone: during our weekly guided hikes, you will feel on top of the world in the company of your fellow hikers.
When you hike through the mountain forest early in the morning and experience the sunrise in the mountains, when an inviting hut emerges from behind the larches, when you greet a hill farmer with a friendly “hello” and he pours you a glass of fresh milk ... then, and only then, will you have experienced what a true “Alpine Summer” on the Hochkönig is all about. Of the ca. 340 km of hiking paths in and around the communities of the Hochkönig region, you will find a well-maintained and clearly sign-posted network of hiking paths for all tastes. A special experience is offered by the Königsweg, a majestic long-distance hiking trail with a length of 73 km.
