The “Schmitten” in Zell am See – Austria’s beautiful panoramic mountain in both summer and winter – is also one of the most traditional ski areas in SalzburgerLand. Along with views of more than 30 summits at elevations of over 3,000 meters, winter athletes will find a wide range of options both on and off the slopes.
Zell am See’s famous local mountain offers variety and fun in winter on around 77 km of ski slopes. With modern cable cars – including the Schmittenhöhebahn, with its stylish gondolas created by the Porsche Design Studio – a great winter adventure starts with your very first lift ride. Once you have arrived at the top, we would recommend spending a while on the newly expanded terrace at the mountain hotel there, where you can allow your eyes to roam across the stunning panoramas. And then, as you carve your way back down the mountain, why not take things at a more leisurely pace this once and discover the artworks of the unique “Gallery on the Piste”, Europe’s highest open-air art space.
